La Palma volcano: Drone video shows black lava swallowing pool, homes on its way to coast

  • Drone footage showed lava from Spain's La Palma volcano swallowing a swimming pool and houses as it spread toward the coast.

The Canary Islands' first volcanic eruption on land in 50 years has forced authorities to evacuate over 6,000 people and to urge sightseers attracted by the phenomenon to stay away.

No fatalities or injuries have been reported since the eruption on Sunday, but drone footage captured the black lava cutting a devastating swathe through the landscape as they advanced down the volcano's western flank toward the Atlantic ocean.

I can’t imagine how devastating it is to watch your home, places full of memories, to slowly be engulfed by stone and ash and not be able to do anything about it.

@E Sousou My grandparents lived there. In a small house with a small garden without a pool and yes, ist was only rented. But litarally everything they ever owned was in it and off course all their memories, too. They are more than 80 years old now and can‘t even think of starting new somewhere else. And they do have an insurance, but what do you think how much it covers?! And it Won‘t give my grandmother her garden back, which she loved and cared for for decades , just to name one thing.

And the answer is: What is the most widely accepted theory on free will in both the scientific, and philosophical communities? (This refers to people with actual education in said fields, not arm chair pro's.)

And the answer is...... oh... I'm so sorry. The answer is that determinism would indeed be real, but as far as most be concerned, free will is a perfectly acceptable way of perceiving this.

Guess it really was both despite how smug you were..... that's really embarrassing for you.

@Sherlock oh, I entirely understood your post. I just imagined "very few", which you took exception to. Having a critical mind is important in any branch of science - never just believe a wild hypothesis. If you wanted to, you could compare the location of known ancient cities with known volcanic eruptions of the time period. E.g. Crater Lake, Lake Toba, Menengai, Quilotoa.

@LAB Please... You're caricaturing my view so much here...

I didn't say that they shouldn't live on this island. I said that there should be a perimeter around the volcano, as it is done in other places in this world... Your examples like Japan or Florida are completely out of subject, I was talking about a small perimeter in a zone that is obviously the most dangerous...
I also clearly said that it wasn't a guarantee that nothing will happen... And you claim now that I suppirt the opposite ? What a joke ! ^^
Maybe you should read what you answer to before giving lessons like this...

Building in the immediate surroundings of a volcano is just nonsense. Sorry. It will be destroyed at some point. Of course lava can go in different directions then and way further, but to build so close is really insane. Risk is everywhere, yes, but the risk is obviously bigger in some places... That's all.

I'm okay with criticism, but to twist my remarks to end up implying that I'm a fool is just a low and pointless behaviour...

I wouldn't go as low as you, I will not imply that you don't think just because you misunderstood something. That's called respect. You should learn about it... 😁

@Eskgráfico Yeskweb He doesN't hate anyone of his creatures.

We're just pooooor creatures in front of HIM whatever we do.

The thing is : NO ONE is goona die before knowing WHY we are here.

ALLAH promised us that you want die and No one can kills you before you know what's HIS REAL MESSAGE. no exception.

ALL the MOUNTAINS on EARTH are CREATED to KEEP THE earth WITHOUT ANY seisms. So if you feel the weakest earthquake : be sure : a WARNING MESSENGERs FROM ALLAH. not a laziness from mounts.

Neither The good things mean that ALLAH loves you ; NOR bad things means ALLAH Hates you.

Good things : To be thankful to ALLAH every moments.

Bad things : I must ask ALLAH what's wrong with me and KEEP asking him until HE enlightens me more and more "When HE decides". not when I order him.

Finally , THE ONLY THING that ALLAH NEVER forgives ( ACCORDING TO EL-QURAAN ) : is Worshipping another one with HIM : People , Sciences , Theories , Prophets , friends , beloved pesons or things , yourself , your interests , FAST results , your desires , ...

Why would I love something more than my love to the ONE who created this thing ???

Why would I LOVE Mum more than THE ONE who created mum then created me inside her body !!!!!

Only the enemies of GOD who do such thing : worshippng a person , a Theory ! , an interest ... and try to kill anyone who reminds them that ALLAH ordred us to ask Pardon and Help from HIM officially on our UNIVERSITIES.

This is the REAL Axial Message of jesus , mohamd , moussa , Ibrahim , ... ...

Either you proove to yourself that EL-QURAN is not A MESSAGE FROM ALLAH.

Or - if not - you should start preparing yourself to your eternal DESTINY...not like the majority.

What a humbling experience, watching this! Ultimately humanity is totally defenseless against nature's (and ultimately God's) power! My heart goes out to the families, especially to the young and innocent children, who used to play around these houses! Their little voices, now displaced to somewhere else. Stay safe and I pray that God provides a way for you to re-establish your lives! There are surely lessons to be learned here. PS 46 "God is our refuge" - He is in charge!!! He has allowed this to happen... He has his reasons and I respect that. He will also show you and provide for you on the way forward, however difficult it may seem! God Bless!

Most of the more severe illnesses happen to people by surprise, unexpectantly, impacting first in the brain, then in the corresponding organ which that part of the brain controls. The end of WWI had absolutely everything to do with the Flu and lung TB outbreak that occurred killing millions. In nature, the biological conflict linked with a territorial fear (just what it means-a fear in your territory, your home, your community, etc.) is a widening of the bronchia (tissue loss). Your body attempts to widen your bronchia in order to allow more air into your lungs to give you more strength and energy to fight to keep your territory safe. Stay with me.......The biological conflict linked with a death fright impacts the lungs. The lungs attempt to grow larger in order to allow more air in because breath equals life, as we all know. No breath equals death.

While you are in the fear or death fright conflict, you notice no symptoms of “disease”, except you have cold hands, cold feet, you can’t sleep, you awaken at 3 AM every night, you have little appetite. During the war, millions of people were in fear of the bombing of their homes and cities where the war was most active. Fearing for their lives, their loved ones in the war, their ability to survive. The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. If TB bacteria does not exist in a person or they have been vaccinated against TB (big mistake), then the tumor will simply encapsulate and become dormant and not harm you. Who died during the Spanish Flu? Mainly the poor who could not afford to buy meat and proper nourishment, and the people who were directly impacted by the bombings and destruction of their homes.

Millions of people suffered fear and death frights during the fighting of WWI, and millions of people all went into healing at the end of it. Not everyone was affected because not everyone suffered the same way.

It’s not a “flu”, it’s not something you “catch”. It’s biological, meaningful, and unavoidable. One hundred years later, a Fear Campaign begins, using the media to spread it......

@bean420man but what does that really mean? Do you even know yourself what you mean by saying that or simply repeat it because it's a common saying? What exactly about us humans is unimportant in that regard or how is this supposed to be understood? In fact it very obviously could very well be said the other way around and in fact more truthfully that all of that physical biological stuff or whatever people are talking about there is incredibly small, unimportant and simply irrelevant in the face of a great personal loss and tragedy

    • bean420man
      bean420man Hace 3 meses

@Dream TheDream89 You are taking it in a different context. Re-read the comment. Of course tragedy is not unimportant but we humans sometimes are reminded that we are nothing in the grand scheme of things. The Earth was here long before we were and it will be when we are gone.

    • Dream TheDream89
      Dream TheDream89 Hace 3 meses

@bean420man well sure, is that supposed to be some kind of discovery or surprise? Biologically, physically its true, its obvious. But the original commentator also implied that those people apparently should be humble because of how small they are. That is inappropriate to say considering that what happened to those people is anything but small. Its a tragic experience. Tragedy is anything but small. Biology and physical stuff, size, amount, weight or whatever is simply irrelevant there and out of place. Two different things

    • bean420man
      bean420man Hace 3 meses

@Dream TheDream89 PEOPLE are small. We are insignificant when it comes to the forces of mother nature. We can change the landscape, build whatever and wherever but if mother nature strikes, there is not much we can do about it. This is even more evident when you look at things like volcanoes. We can build earthquake-proof structures and stop water from flooding areas but nothing is stopping a volcano or hurricane or avalanche, just as examples.
